Welcome Friend!

West Erwin is a family of believers who worship, serve, learn and grow together as we share the good news of Christ.  Our doors are open and so are our hearts.  If you’ve been thinking, praying, searching, and hoping for a place to belong, welcome.  God is ever present at West Erwin Church of Christ and we invite you to join us to believe, connect and serve along side each other as the body of Christ.
What can a visitor expect when worshipping with us?
When you visit with us we want you to feel comfortable. We know an unfamiliar place may be intimidating, so allow us to walk you through a few things. In this way, we hope to make you feel at ease when you visit us.
We believe the church is composed of people, not buildings, so for this reason we could meet anywhere, however we gather together here at the West Erwin Church of Christ on Sunday morning and evening, and on Wednesday evening, to worship, study, pray, grow together, support one another, and to praise our God. As you enter the worship center please feel free to sit wherever you like.
During the worship service we will be led in prayer by men of the congregation. We believe in the power and importance of prayer, and consider it truly a blessing to communicate with God as a community of believers. Through prayer we pour our hearts out to Him, knowing and having confidence that He hears us.
Please feel free to sing along with us as we offer praise to God through our songs. One of the unique things about the fellowship of the Churches of Christ is that the singing is without the accompaniment of musical instruments. The result of “a cappella” music is a beautiful blending of voices, offering praise and glory to God.
Central to our assembly is the weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper (also referred to as “Communion”). We know from New Testament teachings and from church history that the Lord’s Supper was commemorated each Sunday in celebration of the cross and resurrection of Christ. During this memorial, the elements of unleavened bread and “fruit of the vine” (grape juice) represent the sacrifice of Jesus’ body and the shed blood of our Savior who died on the cross for our sins. Those who participate have obeyed the gospel.
If you visit us on a Sunday morning you will observe those of our congregation contributing to the church here at West Erwin during a time of financial offering. As our guest, please understand we in no way ask that you contribute unless you feel compelled to do so. This is simply a time for those who call the West Erwin Church of Christ “home” to contribute to the needs of the church and aid in furthering the Lord’s work from this place.
During worship our preaching minister, or perhaps another leader within the congregation, will share the message of the Gospel. We pray that you find our time together uplifting, encouraging, and Bible-centered. At the conclusion of the sermon there will be an invitation extended at which time anyone who is seeking the love and support of the congregation is given the opportunity to come forward and make their request known, or perhaps someone might come forward to submit their life to Christ in baptism. As well, this is a time when someone might make the congregation aware of a particular blessing or answer to prayer in their life, or even declare that they wish to call the West Erwin Church of Christ their church home.
Christians Only….
As the West Erwin Church of Christ, we are a group of believers who want to be Christians only. That is our aspiration and desire. Our aim is to be the people the Lord calls us to be. Our goal is to be the church as established by Christ in all its beauty and simplicity. We strive to allow God and His Word to define the identity, organization, and responsibilities of our congregation. We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and our guide in all areas of life.
